Call for proposals: Verdenskongress(ICSH/CISH)

Skjema for forslag finner du her.

Only members of ICHS (national committees, affiliated international organizations, internal committees) are invited to send to the ICHS secretariat their proposals for themes in order to structure the Congress program.

The format of the sessions remains unchanged to this day, according to the resolutions of the General Assemblies:

  1. Major Themes (4): Sessions occupy one full day and the number of contributors must not exceed twelve persons ;

  1. Joint Sessions (around 30): They are convened by at least two organizations member of ICSH. They last three hours and gather six participants.

  1. Specialized Themes (around 20): They gather from six to eight contributors and last three hours;

  1. Special Sessions and Round Tables (around 20): The round table is a discussion of a substantial paper related to a major question and written by the convener of the session. The number of participants must not go beyond four (organizer not included) persons. The sessions last for three hours.

The proposals must clearly specify if they concern a major theme or other types of panels. It is important that the themes are sufficiently varied and innovative; concerning, if possible, several regions of the world brought in perspective, and that – for the major themes in particular – they include all the chronological periods. Further it is asked to pay attention to gender balance and generations when selecting participants.

The organizers must provide a short presentation (5,000 characters in Word format) of the theme of the session. It is recalled that the ICHS working languages are exclusively English, French and Spanish.

The selection committee of the ICHS will meet in Neuchâtel in the beginning of 2017 to prepare the draft of the Congress program. The selected proposals will be posted on the ICSH website: www.cish.org. As decided by the General Assembly in Amsterdam in 2010, all ICHS members will have a short time to send their reactions. Then, taking account of these reactions, the committee responsible for the preparation of the Congress program will establish a synthesis of proposals. This synthesis will be discussed at the General Assembly in Moscow at the end of September 2017. As far as the major themes are concerned, they will be chosen ultimately by the General Assembly from the list of proposals.

We remind that the ICSH board is authorized to propose to twin some sessions in case of similar themes. The member associations of ICHS are asked to keep the organizers informed of the evolution of the procedure. The latter must also inform those whose proposals have been rejected.

After the vote of the General Assembly, organizers whose sessions have been accepted will have the responsibility of organizing their panel and recruit their contributors. Modalities will be sent by the ICHS board at the end of 2017. According to the decision taken at the last full board meeting, a second call for proposals will eventually be sent in order to ask for new themes or to complete some panels.

The following innovations will be introduced in Poznań:

– Poster sessions will be held in cooperation with the Polish organizers.

– The ceremony of the international Award for History ICSH/Jaeger- LeCoultre will take place on Wednesday evening.

– “Research Forum” meetings between universities, research centers and PhDs (stands and conferences) will be organized. It is important that the ICHS takes the initiative of an academic professional meeting that will allow young scholars to learn about career opportunities and new perspectives of research. For universities, this will be an opportunity to present their work program.
